#207 Monday, Dec 6th: A sit down discussion with Temecula City Councilman James "Stew" Stewart

James "Stew" Stewart moved to Temecula in 1991 with his wife and 3 children from Oswego, Illinois. He opened his first Stews barbershop in California in Murrieta in 1991 and has opened 7 more since then. Stew was elected to Temecula City Council in 2016 and held the position of Mayor in 2020. Rotary has been a very important aspect of Stew’s life. As the mentor for Great Oak High School Interact Club, his goal is to have kids think and do things outside of their world. The Club raised over $2000 for water filtration in Nepal and then made Christmas stockings for kids in Project Touch (a homeless outreach). They have been involved in projects for the Boys and Girls Clubs and many other projects at home and around the world. He is very proud of the kids that he has had the pleasure to mentor for the last 7 years.

As a youngster Lu's goal was to be an uninhibited singer using a mix of jazz, blues, and gospel to create music with the message of soulful, spiritual healing. After 35 years in the US armed forces this goal remains as Lu channels everything from Al Jarreau, Joe Williams, Lou Rawls, Eddie Jefferson, and John Lee Hooker in his performances creating his own unique vocal style.

Good Samaritan Community Food Pantry serves isolated seniors, veterans, cancer patients, foster families and families at risk and in need. We deliver fresh, frozen, canned and boxed food items, toiletries and pet supplies weekly. When COVID began to close down the city, Teri's first concern was, seniors. After seeing the long lines in the grocery, she thought, how are seniors that are at risk and cannot leave their home, going to eat? Being a woman of action, that day she made a sign and planted it in her front yard. “Operation Temecula Food Drive” and put a big box in front of it. After reaching out to local business, she her first donation, from a loving Chamber member; OTFD was born. Since, she has fed hundreds of isolated seniors, cancer patients, wounded veterans, and families at risk. Her service was noticed by California Assembly member of the 75th district Marie Walden, who recognized her as being a COVID-19 Community hero. Now OTFD has officially become a non-profit organization, “Good Samaritan Community Food Pantry". Besides serving the isolated seniors, and families at risk, she wanted them to have a wonderful holiday and following her message, Live, Love, Give… She launched a very successful adopt a senior, and family for Thanksgiving and Christmas. And brought much needed love to the Temecula Valley.
